New phone and new project

Bought a new phone! It’s not the one I really really wanted (Android HTC Magic is really too expensive for me right now) but I’m pretty happy with what I bought. It’s a Nokia 5800 XpressMusic.

It’s a Symbian S60 v5 device with touchscreen and a bunch of features which really convinced me to buy it. I bought it trough Vodafone’s Cluve Viva so I only payed 166 € for it. The retail price is 229 € so it was a good price I guess.

The phone as a 3.2 MPX camera, wifi (this was a killer feature for me), built-in GPS, bluetooth, touchscreen, FM radio . The phone came with a 8GB MicroSD card (woot!), a stylus, headset, radio antena, data cable, and some other little things. The screen is a 3.2 wide-screen LCD with a 640 x 360 resolution. It’s a very good screen, with very good image quality.

The built-in GPS works pretty well (A-GPS off!) and I’ve started making tracks for Open Street Maps! I’m currently using Nokia Sports Tracker for that. Besides the tracks I started doing map making! I always loved maps and cartography. One of my favorite classes in university. S. Miguel island has very few streets and roads mapped in OSM so I have tons of work to do! I don’t see anyone else doing this in S. Miguel so if someone has a GPS or phone with GPS, why don’t you make some tracks? It’s pretty easy. I can give a hand if you need.

I’ll post more info on these subjects latter. I’ll post some 5800 made photos here as well.

PS: GNOME 2.28 is coming, lots of translations to do also! So much todo, so little time!
